Do you wade through a pile of shoes at your front door? Do you trip over shoes in everyone’s room? If the answer is yes, then you probably need a closet shoe organizer. There are a variety of types on the market and any one of them can help to keep your closets organized and your entry way free and clear.
The first thing you’ll have to decide is how much space you have for shoes in your closet, and what the best placement for a shoe organizer will be. There are modular units that are basically just low shelves that can fir underneath the hanging items. These give you space for the shoes but they don’t really keep the shoes in place. They can easily become just a jumbled mess on the shelves. For this reason, a shoe organizer that actually has wire loops that the shoes fir on is a better choice. Shoes will stay put, and stay in pairs, ready when you need them.
Another type of closet shoe organizer fits over the back of the door. There are both wire and canvas over the door shoe holders. The canvas ones generally have pockets that shoes slip into. The wire ones are made with loops that the shoes fit over. Which one you choose is mostly a function of the types of shoes you’ll be keeping there. Obviously dress shoes will fit better in such a hanger than would big hiking boots or heavy work shoes.
In some cases, such as a front entry closet or hallway, you may want your shoes organized but also out of site. There are some pretty cool shoe organizers that open on an angle to slide the shoes in and then close to keep smelly sneakers and muddy boots completely out of sight!
One other tip to help keep closet clutter under control and store shoes at the same time are to put pairs of shoes that you don’t wear very often into clear plastic containers. You can then put the pair of shoes on any regular shelf and they’ll stay together and be easily identified when you want to wear them.
