If you have an apartment, a condo or a house with small closets, than you know how important it is to keep that tiny space neat and tidy.  More than other types of closets, small closets absolutely must be organized closets.

If you have a small closet than you are well aware that these cramped quarters can present a great deal of trouble when it comes to staying organized.  There is simply too many things to fit in such a small space.  But there are some great ways to increase the available storage space by using a small closet organizer.

One of the most effective ways for how to organize a small closet, is by taking advantage of vertical space.  Many times people forget to use all of the available space in their closet.  They fill the closet from side to side but not from top to bottom.

Many of the closet organizers that you can purchase have great shelving units that vary in depth and width.  Be sure to measure your closet accurately and get shelves that fit.

The next thing you can do to make a closet organizer shelf unit work for you is to purchase stacking boxes.  These boxes can help to organize many of the smaller items that you may have sitting on the floor of your closet.  By placing these items neatly in boxes, your closet will look far more organized and it will keep smaller items from being misplaced.  It may even be helpful to label each box so you can easily find what you need.

Another great feature of  organized closets is the addition of a second, and sometimes even a third, hanging rod.  This creates a lot more space for hanging clothes.  Simply hang the longest items on the top rod, shorter items or things that can easily be folded like pants over the middle rod and shorter items on the bottom.  Every little inch of space that you can utilize will help keep your closet organized.

Because every closet is different, it is vital to take accurate measurements of your closet before you shop for a home closet organizer.  You can cause yourself a lot of wasted time, money and frustration by purchasing rods, shelves and wall units that don’t fit in your closet.

Also be prepared to throw away or donate items that are causing clutter in your small closet.  Most often, there are a lot of items in a closet that are unwanted and are simply taking up much needed space.  Donating unwanted items is not only a great closet organization idea, but you will be helping a worthy cause at the same time.

Small closets can still be big on space if they are properly organized.  Closet organizers can help utilize these small spaces and make them fabulously functionable.  Keep your small closet organized and you will feel better each time you open your organized closets door.

Everyone has fought the battle to keep their personal belongings organized.  And no where is this usually more evident than in the closet.  Closets are a catch-all in most houses.  It is the place where extra items that aren’t used regularly accumulate and eventually fill a closet leaving no space for clothing or shoes.  If this sounds familiar than perhaps it’s time you invested in a closet organizer.

Because closets are a small space, it is even more vital that they stay clean and organized.   An effective closet storage organizer can certainly make your life a little easier and eliminate the clutter that fills your closet.  These compact organizers can help you double , or even triple the available space that you have in your closet.  By utilizing every vertical and horizontal inch in your closet, you can gain a lot of space.

There are many benefits to having a clean and organized closet.  For one, it can save you time in the busy morning hours when you are frantically searching for that sweater you know you bought but can’t seem to find.  Or that tie that he wore to your cousins wedding last summer.  Having a properly organized closet will eliminate the frustration.

A closet organizer will also save you a lot of time when it comes to cleaning as well.  Instead of moving one misplaced item from place to place just so you can get to where the clothes and shoes are, you will be able to easily see all of your clothes and see which shelves or hanging items net to be tidied.  And the best part is, once you properly organize your closet, it will stay that way for a long, long time.

How is a Closet Organizer installed?

Most of the time, the configuration of your closet is completely up to you.  It is important to really assess what your needs are in your closet.  Do you need lots of shelving?  Do you have too many clothes to fit on one hanging rod?  Is your shoe collection so large that you need extra shoe storage?  These are all things to consider before your purchase.

Also, be sure to accurately measure your closet.  It is very important to have accurate measurements when deciding what will fit in your space.  But be creative.  Perhaps you have the traditional closet set-up right now with one hanging rod that stretches horizontally across the top of your closet.  Why not install three rods with one at the top, one in the middle and one closer to the bottom.  Hang your shirts on the top rod, overlapping pants on the middle and other items like belts on the bottom.  This is a great way to gain more space for hanging items.

When organizing closets one component that it is important to consider is shelving.  Using lots of shelves can help move items up off of the floor and create more room in your closet.  Shelves are especially useful for items that are stored in your closet but perhaps aren’t used very often. Things like suitcases, picnic baskets or other off-season items.  Be sure to include shelving for heavy items as well.

Of course, when you organize closets, it is sometimes necessary to store items on the floor.  The most logical thing to use floor space for is your shoes.  Most closet organizers come with a form of shoe rack that can vary from one level to a multi-level type rack for complete shoe storage.  This is fantastic for people who have a large number of shoes.  They stay neat and tidy and are very easily accessible.

However, shoes don’t always need to be stored in this manner.  Many closet organizing systems have the option of storing shoes off of the floor as well.  There are even compartments that you can mount on the wall for another time-saving, space-efficient solution.

Custom closet organizers also offer the option to include pull-out shelves in your  closet configuration.  These types of shelves are great for smaller clothing items like scarves, belts, ties, handbags or even jewelery.

When you decide to set up your closet organizer, be careful to plan carefully an include all of the necessary components that will make your  newly organized space work best for you.
